Q & A
- Q. Is it possible for this medication to cause nervouseness, fear or hypersensitivity in dogs?
- A.
I wouldn't expect it to cause any side-effects such as nervousness or fear, or behavioural hypersensitivity. It can cause allergic hypersensitivity (usually a rash, swelling etc), which could in theory cause behavioural changes, However, I think it more likely that any nervousness is due to the underlying condition that the clavaseptin is being used to treat.
I hope this helps,

MyVetMeds - Q. Have you encountered the side effect of constant licking? Our dog is a 50 lb male mutt and is under 2 years old. His licking behavior is manic at the office where we have a carpet, but at home, no licking at all. He has just finished a 7 day course of 250mg tablet, twice daily, which was prescribed to inhibit infection for a stripped duclaugh.
- A.
Hi Dave,
It is possible for animals to be sensitive to medicines, and have a reaction such as the description you have outlined. You do say that his behaviour changes according to where he is, which would suggest that there may be other
factors. You dont say whether this has only just come on since he started taking the tablets either. Once he has finished the course if the problem fades then keep a note of the product name and ask the vet to consider a
sensitivity, and make a note on his records. If it continues then you may have to look at other causes.
