About Cystease S 125mg (300 capsules)

In the cat, bladder function is affected by a variety of factors. These include:
Obesity and lack of exercise - predisposes to stagnation of the urine, increasing the contact time between the urine and the bladder wall.
Water intake - a low water intake predisposes to the formation of more concentrated urine.
The glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer - this lines the bladder and helps to maintain the integrity of the bladder lining. It is thought to have a dual function: It limits the movement of urine and other ionic/non-ionic components across the membrane. It also stops microorganisms and crystals adhering to the bladder wall.
Stress - the influence of stress on the protective bladder lining is now well documented and possible factors include:
Recently moved home
Building work
Abrupt changes in diet
Environmental/weather changes
Overcrowding e.g. in multi-cat housholds, especially if there is inter-cat conflict
Owner stress
The addition to the household of new pets or people
Stress associated with urination, for example:
Unsuitable position or content of the litterbox
Competition for the litterbox
Aggressive behaviour by other cats when the cat is trying to use the litterbox or when urinating outside
Cystease S contains N-acetyl glucosamine, which is a building block for GAG production. It may therefore help to maintain the integrity of the bladder lining.
