Q & A

Q. my dog has been prescribed baytril for a urinary trct infection .this has given her the runs .she is a 25 kg dog and the dosage prescribed is 1/2 150mg tablet and a 50mg tablet. she is also on propalyn and metacam why has she got the runs pls
A.

Baytril is an antibiotic, and although in this case it's being used to kill off the bacteria causing your dog's infection, it will also be killing off some of the "good bacteria" in her gut. The end result is loose or runny stools.
If it is mild and she seems bright and well, I would just keep an eye on her and make sure she has plenty of water available and a simple, bland diet. If it is severe or bloody, or she seems depressed or unwell, you should get back to your vet as she might need a bit more care.
Hope this helps,
