Directions For Use

Directions for Use

Routine treatment of adult dogs and cats

4 ml per 1 kg bodyweight as a single oral dose (= 100 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight).

The dose should be mixed with feed, or administered orally directly after feeding.

Treatment should be repeated when natural re-infestation with parasitic worms occurs. Routine treatment of adult animals with minimal exposure to infection is advisable 2 to 4 times per year. More frequent treatment at 6 to 8 weekly intervals is advisable for dogs in kennels.

Panacur Small Animal 10% Oral Suspension is preferable for the treatment of larger dogs.

Puppies and kittens under six months of age

2ml per kg bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days given by mouth after feeding to unweaned animals or mixed with food for weaned animals directly before feeding (= 50 mg fenbendazole bodyweight daily for 3 days).

Active Ingredient

Panacur Suspension For Cats & Dogs 2.5% 100 ml ingredients

A white oral suspension of fenbendazole as a ready to administer oral anthelmintic for domestic dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. 1 ml contains 100 mg active ingredient fenbendazole.

Side Effects

Side effects of Panacur Suspension For Cats & Dogs 2.5% 100 ml

Intensive use or misuse of anthelmintics can give rise to resistance. To reduce this risk, dosing programmes should be discussed with your veterinary surgeon.

Care should be taken to avoid the following practices because they increase the risk of development of resistance and could ultimately result in ineffective therapy:

- Too frequent and repeated use of anthelmintics from the same class, over an extended period of time.

- Underdosing, which may be due to underestimation of body weight, misadministration of the product, or lack of calibration of the dosing device (if any).

Suspected clinical cases of resistance to anthelmintics should be further investigated using appropriate tests (e.g. Faecal Egg Count Reduction Test). Where the results of the test(s) strongly suggest resistance to a particular anthelmintic, an anthelmintic belonging to another pharmacological class and having a different mode of action should be used.

Resistance to benzimidazoles (which includes fenbendazole) has been reported in Teladorsagia, Haemonchus, Cooperia and Trichostrongylus species in small ruminants in a number of countries, including the EU. Therefore the use of this product should be based on local (regional, farm) epidemiological information about susceptibility of nematodes and recommendations on how to limit further selection for resistance to anthelmintics.

Fenbendazole belongs to the benzimidazole (1-BZ) class of anthelmintics.
