Oral administration of fluids to cows can be difficult and time-consuming. However, the Agger's Cattle Pump has been developed in order to make it quick, easyand affordable.

ORAL ADMINISTRATION OF FLUIDS  -
Where and when?
Oral administration of fluids with electrolytes or specific nutrients is commonly indicated in cows:

1              in toxaemic mastitis and metritis
2              in acute rumen acidosis
3              in freshly calved cows
                                e.g. where there is a risk of ketosis or milk fever
4              in sub-clinical ketosis or after intravenous dextrose in clinical ketosis
5              after surgery e.g. caesarian section
6              in cases of dehydration e.g. downer cows
7              in sequestration of fluids e.g. acute rumen acidosis, peritonitis
8              when delivery of larger quantities of nutrients are required than can be given by a paste or drench

ORAL ADMINISTRATION OF FLUIDS IS USEFUL BECAUSE IT:

1              hastens recovery
2              reduces the risk of dehydration or endotoxaemia
3              minimises the reduction in milk yield

Fluids act as a supply of water to the animal as well as supplying sodium which prevents loss of water from
extracellular fluid (and therefore the circulation) into the cells.
